I'm legal...nuff said

Me being legal isn't actually what this whole post is about. I just find it cool heehee. So this past week was filled with all sorts of interesting things :) Some of the pictures can't be posted at this point in time mostly because they're on the Lengkeek Camera.

So on Sunday I met the young peoples of the Cape Town congregation. It feels very strange to write about that since I don't know how many of them actually read my blog :D Anyways. It was very interesting. It was very frustrating not being able to understand the language..therefore not catching any of the jokes so I have a renewed vigor to learn the language..we'll see if it actually works. One of the first words I told people I knew was "Boom" which is afrikaans for "tree" (pronounced "boo-em") Apparently if you say "I want some Boom" it also counts as the word for Marijuana...interesting.

Jerome and I had one of our first bootcamp outings :) We hiked up Tygerburg Valley and Jerome told me lots of interesting facts about Cape Town and South Africa in general. If you want to talk to a guy who really knows his stuff..it's Jerome. The hike was quite strenuous..Jerome is soundly beating me in all things remotely athletic. I find that very depressing since he's a father of 6 kids and also doing schoolwork constantly while I'm a young, free, 18 year old girl. That definitely calls for some serious work out action on my part :) While on our hike we saw an owl! It was probably about a meter and a half away from us and it didn't move!! It was fantastic..here's a picture :D
On tuesday we went to the Movies! I think it was tuesday..I can't say it was all that different from the movies in canada :D Except that the bass was jacked for some reason and our seats would vibrate whenever it got too noisy :D
On Wednesday some of the young people took me to Waterfront bay where we saw the same guy deanna did doing tricks! We didn't actually get to stay and watch him which was very sad..I hope we can go again. There were also seals really close by. I guess they're used to people here...everyone thought it was amusing that I was so fascinated by seals. Yesterday evening we also hiked up Lions head because it was a full moon! We started the hike at around 5:15-5:20 after I got dropped off :) It didn't take super long to hike up even with 4 girls and one that is 5. We got a lot of crazy looks from people bringing alicia up the mountain since it's straight up hill and requires a lot of climbing over rocks. We even took alicia and bethany up the chains. Basically it's a straight uphill climb with places to step out of the mountain. We really got a LOT of crazy looks when people saw alicia trekking up it like a pro. Boosted from the bottom by dad and pulled up by mom. Sadly the trail was packed with people so I didn't really have time to snap a picture :( Hopefully we go again and I can take a picture and you can imagine what alicia did. The steps were almost too far for my legs..imagine someone 1/4 of my hight :P Heres some pictures of the view along with some other things:

This is the "we look horrific but we made it up in one piece so we're going to take a picture to document the moment"

We treated ourselves to some of Tannie Lolos' Jolley Ranchers (notice the view behind me..epic)

Sunset...beautiful.

Champagne..beautiful :P hahah Jerome brought along all sorts of treats for our adventure. This is the first documented legal drink in a public place :D

Full Moon! The clouds started to cover it right after i snapped this picture

We got to enjoy this picture for a VERY long time. Unfortunately we misjudged the amount of people that would be crowded on the mountain and the hike down was just a slow crawl because there were probably about 1200 people in front of us. Kudos goes to Andria who suggested leaving a little earlier..helped us out a little bit. Either way, getting down the mountain took 2 and half hours.
Fortunately:
1. we had a beautiful view (see above)
2. We met a lot of really interesting people while we waited in line
3. We did something unusual :)
Unfortunately:
1. I didn't have my runners and was hiking in sandals
2. It was dark...and steep...
3. We had 4 girls who were exhausted
4. It started to rain
5. It was windy..and I was wearing short shorts. I froze..and I'm from Canada
haha Altogether though it was a very enjoyable hike! Counting in the good and the bad :D
And now we're all relaxing at home..well..I am :D haha the girls are getting homeschooled by andria\

I think that is a very good blog post and very nicely scheduled :) We're going for one a week..lets see if I can keep it up.

  1. Nice post Tannie Lollos. Just have to say that the picture of the owl was not using zoom. I actually had to warn Lauren when she took that picture to be ready to protect her face if it flew up at her as it was kind of trapped against the hillside. Sweet! Sounds like you're getting lots of material for your next post - off to the beach with your friends today, and then tonight you go to a "dop 'n tjop".

  2. As a response to a question by one of my friends. When I said "the epic view behind me" on the jolley rancher picture I did in fact mean the city bellow and not the shirtless men :P
    Just to clarify.
